Palestinian women: surviving war, sustaining life
Humanitarian context · dated source briefing · Editorial source review: 7 October 2026

Displacement changes more than an address. For Palestinian women in Gaza, it can mean losing a safe place to sleep, access to healthcare, an income and the people who shared the work of caring for a family.
The conditions behind the headlines
UN Women documents how the destruction of homes and services, repeated displacement and loss of livelihoods combine to make daily survival harder for women. Care responsibilities continue even when water, sanitation, food and medical treatment become difficult to obtain. The effects are not identical: disability, age, pregnancy and responsibility for children can create different barriers to assistance.
Women are also leading the response
Reporting from UN Women’s Data Hub describes Palestinian women-led organisations providing legal help, psychosocial support, accessible services and cash assistance. Their work shows why humanitarian decisions need women’s participation. Assistance should respond to women’s priorities rather than reduce their lives to a single image of suffering.
