Rosa Luxemburg
Poland / Germany · 1871–1919
Luxemburg was a socialist thinker and organiser who wrote about capitalism, imperialism and mass political action. Her defence of debate within revolutionary politics remains one of her most discussed arguments.
She is included here as an influential woman in political thought, not as a representative of every feminist tradition. Her commitments and disagreements belong to a particular socialist history.
“Freedom is always the freedom of dissenters.”
The Russian Revolution (1918), English translation.
