Gloria Steinem

Steinem helped bring feminist arguments into mainstream American journalism and co-founded Ms. magazine. Her organising addressed political representation, reproductive freedom and the social expectations placed on women.

Her long public career offers a view of how a movement communicates beyond its immediate circles. It also shows why media visibility and sustained local organising are different kinds of work.
