1–31 October

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Awareness means access to reliable information, timely diagnosis and care, and support for people living with breast cancer. A new lump or change in the breast deserves medical attention, even if it does not hurt. Most lumps are not cancer, but a clinician should assess them.

Ways to take part

  • Read the WHO overview; ask a qualified clinician about screening appropriate to your age, history and local programme.
  • Explore Alma Zois for patient support in Greece and ask about current volunteering or awareness activities.
  • Share accurate information with its source. Offer practical help to someone affected, following their wishes and respecting their privacy.

8 March

International Women’s Day

A day to recognise women’s achievements and turn attention to the inequalities that remain, in education, work, public life and access to rights.

Ways to take part

  • Explore the women in our history collection and discuss whose work is still overlooked.
  • Read this year’s official campaign and ask local women’s organisations about confirmed activities.
